Like what is going change~
I feel like an idiot to have to ask. I only do ask because you all seem informed. At least far more informed than the people who have told me about it. They're only concerned with the fact that Biden mumbled "fucking", and keep crossing paths on what they've told me and getting me more confused! -_-

I don't think anyone understands it. Including those in Congress. I think it just is a bill that says everyone has to have medical insurance. If you don't you get fined. If a person doesn't get it through work, the government will subsidise the person to buy it for themselves.

Sounds a lot to me like redistribution of wealth. You penalize the wealthy because they are successful and provide the less successful benefits with that money. 9. If You Earn More, You'll Pay More
Starting in 2018, if your combined family income exceeds $250,000 you are going to be taking less money home each pay period. That's because you will have more money deducted from your paycheck to go toward increased Medicare payroll taxes. In addition to higher payroll taxes you will also have to pay 3.8% tax on any unearned income, which is currently tax-exempt. #6 bothers me the most. When has the US federal government been able to force you into buying something that you may never use? 6. You Must be Insured
Under the new law starting in 2014, you will have to purchase health insurance or risk being fined. If your employer does not offer health insurance as a benefit or if you do not earn enough money to purchase a plan, you may get assistance from the government. The fines for not purchasing insurance will be levied according to a sliding scale based on income. Starting in 2014, the lowest fine would be $95 or 1% of a person's income (whichever is greater) and then increase to a high of $695 or 2.5% of an individual's taxable income by 2016. There will be a maximum cap on fines.

If a person can't afford insurance, then how can you afford to pay the fine? What kind of assistance, like 100% payment? I don't think so.
BTW Katie, I know you are not a complete idiot. If you were, you wouldn't asked to an explanation of something so screwed up as this health bill.

I love how I don't need insurance. If I need an operation, it's free. If I need medicine, it's free. If I ever want to have children, it's free.
Living in the UK can be pretty awesome in that sense.

It's not free. You pay for it through taxes. There is no free lunch so to speak. I am already paying more taxes for Obama economic bailout that didn't work. Now I am faced with more taxes to pay for someone elses healthcare.

I'm glad I live in a country where your pulse is checked before your wallet.

I really don't think that is the case at all. I believe it is illegal for a hospital to deny somebody with service if it is an emergency. Edit: As a matter of fact I think that is one of the main reasons health care in the US costs so much.
