copied and pasted from my Tumblr...
Well first off, I have to say that this was the first show on this tour. So I feel pretty special.
All of the bands were really good. I’d never heard The Henry Clay People before but they’re pretty excellent. I think LA indie with a 70s influence (not just talking about the brothers with the Robert Plant-esque hair). I was impressed by them, definitely check them out. They’re worth it.
Against Me! is a band I was looking forward to seeing because they’re from Florida, and one of the best bands from here, I think. Really good, but I couldn’t understand the vocals at all. I don’t know what was drowning Tom out, the audience or the guitars, but I couldn’t understand him. Someone decided to be really classy and throw ice at them (Tom: “Missed!”). Tom called them out on it later on, but their roadie was on it. Once that ice hit the stage, he went back for a towel to wipe it up and picked up the ice. Such a pro.
And then SSPU…omg. I was on Joe’s side of the stage, which I really wanted to be on Nikki’s, but I’d be glad later on that I was on his side. RIGHT AT THE BARRICADE (got there at 5, doors opened at 7). So there’s a bit of a light show, with a trippy electronic intro thingy, THEN they took the stage and went into “Growing Old is Getting Old” (I think they’ve been opening with this ever since Swoon came out).
A few highlights:
•There was a group of girls (myself included) screaming like a bunch of fangirls at Brian, to which he replied by making a screamy fangirl face back at us. Yeah, we could feel the love.
•Brian: “You should join us after the show for our acoustic set at Margaritaville…we can get some fish tacos…Nikki will walk on stilts…” Margaritaville is across the lake from Hard Rock Live, which is in Universal CityWalk Orlando…which brings me to my next highlight.
•Brian on the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter: “So we’ve been walking around the park a little bit…we got to see the Hogwarts castle…” And everyone screamed at the top of their lungs. “Doesn’t that open, like, tomorrow or something?” Nope, Friday. “I think we should all just have a party at Hogwarts, what do you say?” If it were open and I didn’t have a theory test the next morning, totally.
•Brian after Kissing Families: “So I kinda forgot the words to that last song…so thanks for singing that with me, especially *pointing to random people in the audience* you, you, you, you, you, you, you, and you. I think one of the “you’s” was me, tbh. Not just saying that. *squee*
•The whole band (except Nikki) had some sort of beer or something on stage with them. Brian and Joe had it in these really nice glasses, Christopher in a plastic cup. So a guy in the audience says, “I hope it’s a cold one!!!” To which Brian says, “Yes, it is cold.”
•Nikki didn’t say much at all, except once she held up her water bottle and said, “Cheers!” SHE IS SO CUTE OMG
•She wore a black dress, really cute red wedge shoes, and her butterfly pin. I always have to say something about what Nikki’s wearing because she always looks great and last night was no exception.
•As they started Common Reactor, there is just Christopher playing drums, so Nikki, Brian, and Joe really aren’t doing anything. So Joe decides to do this little dance in his chair (which I have video of). And I did not expect it because he’s usually pretty laid back from what I can tell. Then Brian puts his guitar behind him (literally over his ass) and starts dancing with his back turned to the audience. From what I remember, Nikki was just standing there being cute.
•Brian on Catch and Release: “So that’s a song we haven’t played in a while…and it’s kinda dirty now that I think about it…” well duh
Set list from what I can remember, it might be slightly out of order but these are all the songs.
Growing Old is Getting Old
Well Thought Out Twinkles
There’s No Secrets This Year (w/ Swoon interlude)
The Royal We
It’s Nice To Know You Work Alone
Little Lover’s So Polite
Future Foe Scenarios
Kissing Families (there was some short little bit before it, but no one knew exactly what it was or what Brian was singing)
Catch and Release
Panic Switch
Lazy Eye
encore:
Substitution
Rusted Wheel
Common Reactor
Merch stuffs: I did buy one of the new tour shirts. It’s blue and has a repeating logo and dates on the back. They also have the black shirt with the squigglys and the 2010 dates. They also have vinyl, a tote bag, posters, several different T-shirts, a hoodie, a keychain, and a hat that looks like one that Joe used to wear. It’s beige and has a red SSPU logo embroidered on it. The tour shirts are $25, everything else is $30. The two posters are the sepia-tone photo (search eBay for "Silversun Pickups poster" and you'll find it) that's $10, and then there's a $25 one with the same photo, only watercolor-style in red and white with the band name and tour dates. It's much smaller too, but it's special edition which explains the price I guess. I would've bought it but if I did I wouldn't have had any money left.
I have a good couple of awful pictures (taken on my awful cameraphone, I guess you get what you're given, there were no cameras allowed) and video of Panic Switch, Substitution, and Common Reactor (including the dance). But my card reader's busted so once I get one I'll post all of those. The lights during Panic Switch were very similar to the ones in the video, too. Just thought that was worth mentioning.
You really need to see them if you haven't...if you can I guess.
